Rubbing Your Eyes Is Bad!

Do you get half way through the evening, only to find that you are rubbing your eyes as if it's time to go to bed? Do you get severely or even mildly bloodshot eyes when you are watching TV? Finally, do you get that itchy sensation in the corners of your eyes when you are exposed to certain pollutants or situations?

If you answered yes to any of those questions - there is a good chance that you suffer from an issue that a huge proportion of people have battled their way through in the past - irritated eyes. Unfortunately, this seemingly "spontaneous" condition arises from nowhere - striking its victims when they least expect it, and often when they are least positioned to deal with it.

Have you ever been having dinner with a friend when a sudden "itchy eye" attack occurred? If so, you probably had to rush off to the bathroom until the swelling and redness went back down. Such a simple thing is definitely enough to ruin your night or day - and potentially influence other areas of your life as well - such as relationships and your career.

In addition to these aspects of life, the physical and tangible results of the irritation you are experiencing can be particularly disturbing. When you rub your eyes, there is the potential for a number of things to happen - none of which are particularly good.

Rubbing Leads To Worse Developments

To understand just why we made the comment that rubbing your eyes can lead to further adverse developments in your health, we need to understand exactly what this means. The thing is - when you rub your eyes, you very often push against the eyeball itself, causing pressure to build at the back of the eye socket, where to optic nerve connects to the extremely delicate fibers of the eye.

When this pressure builds, the blood flow in and out of the eye slows, meaning that it is much harder for the eye to maintain its functionality for the duration of the rubbing. Even though the odd rub here and there will not cause any long term damage - regular rubbing as a result of an irritation can indeed lead to much more severe problems with the eyes further down the track.

Therefore - it is important that you take all the possible steps to prevent eye irritation in the first place.
